Steve James

Steve James is a Founding Partner and Director of Community Design for DTJ DESIGN (DTJ), a multi-discipline firm based in Boulder, CO and Atlanta, GA. DTJ has a 50-year business history and established national and international practices. Steve initiates creative development concepts and works with other DTJ Principals, integrating planning, landscape, and architecture services. He offers notable expertise in innovative community design solutions for amenitized residential, resort, and mixed-use developments, and cutting-edge design for single-family, active adult and multifamily products, and amenity buildings.

Steve maintains a broad-based understanding of market trends and progressive planning and architecture solutions. DTJ projects representing Steve’s design leadership have received numerous awards, including ULI Awards of Excellence, Best in American Living, Builder’s Choice, PCBC Gold Nuggets and AIA. He has served as a judge for these prestigious awards programs and authored numerous articles for national and regional publication. Steve’s enthusiastic presentation style and relevant topics, have made him a popular speaker since the mid-80s for local and national audiences, including ULI, NAHB, PCBC, Presidential Seminar, Housing Giants, FRAME, and regional HBAs.
